Product description
Based on the original 2020 design - one that achieved remarkable international success - the new Model X raises the bar once again. It incorporates a series of refinements shaped by years of real-world feedback, resulting in a mixer that feels meticulously perfected in every detail.
While its unmistakably warm and characterful sonic signature - often compared to some of the finest mixers ever produced - remains intact, the internal architecture has undergone profound modernization. The use of updated component technologies has enabled a new standard of low noise and better distortion performance, delivering a dynamic, articulate sound with an exceptionally flat frequency response.
The phono preamplifiers have been elevated to an even higher level of accuracy. Their RIAA correction now factors in averaged error deviations found in reverse-RIAA circuitry of common disc-cutting systems (mapping derived from well-known VMS70 and VMS82 lathes), along with an averaged correction over playback error from even more expanded library of stylus profiles. The result is superior fidelity and precision in regards to the source material, accompanied by even lower noise and enhanced dynamic range.
Signal routing continues to rely on hermetically sealed, gold-contact relays, switching audio paths transparently and without distortion - now upgraded to an even higher-grade specification. For all rotary controls, we have adopted premium Japanese-made potentiometers with robust metal shafts, engineered for long-term reliability. The 24dB/oct master isolator and each channel’s floating EQ controls now feature a firm, tactile center detent, enabling rapid repositioning to the center point by feel alone - an invaluable advantage in dimly lit venues where performance flow takes priority over visual confirmation.
The rotary fader curve has also been refined. It now closely mirrors the characteristic response found in iconic mixers of the 1980s: a smooth logarithmic taper with a gentle onset, free from the abrupt jump often felt at the end of the rotation. This provides a more natural and highly controllable volume sweep, even over the final portion of the fader’s angle.
The concept of the TRIM/SEND switchable operating mode remains unchanged, but the switch itself has been moved to the rear panel to prevent accidental toggling mid-performance. These two modes essentially transform the unit into two mixers in one: send mode delivers a classic 1970s-style workflow, where channel level is controlled exclusively by the rotary fader, with per-channel FX send available - while the trim mode mirrors modern mixer behaviour, with channel gain pre-set by the trim (gain) potentiometer. The trim/send knobs are now positioned directly within their respective channel sections for more intuitive control. Additionally, the master insert - used for inline serial effects processors - is now permanently active, allowing immediate patch-in of any desired effect.
The VU meters have also been updated due to the limited availability of the previous series. The new 36 mm round meters offer significantly greater measurement accuracy, with needle dynamics that more faithfully represent true RMS levels. They illuminate red when the signal enters the overload region, providing a clear and unmistakable visual cue.
CUE buttons retain their familiar feel, but now feature a subtle pre-illumination, ensuring they remain visible even in near-dark conditions. The entire assembly is housed in a chassis made from a special high-durability aluminum alloy. All panel markings are applied using a highly abrasion-resistant printing process, intentionally minimalistic and free of unnecessary visual clutter - consistent with the design philosophy established in the previous generation.
